Virgin Trains Renames Wolverhampton Station to ‘wolverine’ to Celebrate X-men

To celebrate a unique partnership with Twentieth Century Fox and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, Virgin Trains have rebranded an entire station on their network.

On the morning of April Fool’s Day, Virgin Trains’ customers at Wolverhampton Station were brought one step closer to the movie’s pulse-pounding action as the station was completely rebranded to ‘Wolverine’, after one of the movie’s best known characters who has special powers that allow him to heal faster than usual.

As the official UK travel partner of the upcoming blockbuster, Virgin Trains has been working with Network Rail to provide an entertaining journey experience on an even wider scale as departure boards at London Euston and public address announcements had the destination changed to ‘Wolverine’. At the newly branded ‘Wolverine’ Station all signage, platform names and station announcements were also changed.

The stunt was part of a unique partnership with Twentieth Century Fox, which has already seen Virgin Trains bring the movie franchise to life by wrapping all 11 carriages of a flagship 11-car Pendolino train, which was unveiled by the movie’s stars Hugh Jackman and James McAvoy at London Euston on 31st March. The train will continue to travel the length of the country in the run up to, and following, the film’s release on May 22nd.

X MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is set to be released in cinemas nationwide from the 22nd May and sees the return of Director Bryan Singer bridging the gap between the old and new franchises. The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class,” in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.

Adrian Varma, Partnerships and Regions Manager at Virgin Trains said:

“Today’s activity is about creating a more immersive experience for our customers whilst also having some fun. We’re always looking for different ways to give our customers a heightened travel experience and April Fool’s really allowed us to have some fun with passengers and really bring the X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST partnership to life. As a company based in the region it’s important that we can have fun with customers locally.”

Chris Green, Theatrical Marketing Director from Twentieth Century Fox UK said:

“This fun piece of April Fools activity really helps bring the film to life in an exciting and different way, with one of the franchises favourite characters, ahead of the release of X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST on 22nd May”
