British Olympic Association appoints Pitch to assist with Games-Time PR role

The British Olympic Association has appointed leading sports communications consultancy Pitch to play a pivotal role in assisting with its media activity during the London 2012 Olympic Games as well as undertaking a campaign to promote one of the key products designed to help fans of Team GB show their support for Our Greatest Team.

Pitch will support the BOA communications team on the management and media relations for medal-winning athletes in the wake of their potential successes at this summer’s Games with the agency’s staff playing an important supporting role in leveraging the unprecedented media interest in Team GB across the frenetic Games-time period.

In addition, Pitch will undertake a consumer communications campaign to help drive sales of key Team GB supporters’ items including the official Team GB supporters scarf which is available at Next stores across the country or online at www.next.co.uk.

Pitch has worked with the BOA on a number of projects in recent years, leading the PR activation around the British Olympic Ball in 2010 and 2011 as well as the ‘Our Greatest Team Rises’ fundraising event at the Royal Albert Hall in May.

The agency’s involvement in the Olympic Games also includes being appointed by LOCOG to promote ticket sales for the Games, a consumer-facing campaign which has resulted in over 6 million tickets sold, as well as an array of activation initiatives for sponsoring brands.

Darryl Seibel, Communications Director for the BOA and Team GB, said:

“Celebrating the performances of our medal-winning athletes, whilst supporting the needs of our athletes and the media during the London 2012 Olympic Games, represents a sizeable PR challenge. Pitch has proven it can work with the numerous stakeholders connected with the Games to deliver a compelling media proposition which made the agency the perfect choice to support our efforts.”

Henry Chappell, CEO of Pitch, said:

“Working with the BOA during Games-time is a great opportunity for us, and a real endorsement of our capability. Britain’s medal-winning athletes will be the focal point of the nation’s attention over the coming weeks and we look forward to being able to assist the BOA with celebrating Team GB’s successes in front of the broadest possible audience.”
