August Rosenmeier named FIFA Interactive World Cup (FIWC) World Champion

Denmark’s August Rosenmeier is the new FIFA Interactive World Cup (FIWC) World Champion after beating England’s David Bytheway 3-1 at the Final Showdown.

August also received a cheque for USD 20,000 and will travel to the Ballon d’Or to rub shoulders with the world’s best footballers.

The Final Showdown took place at Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Sugarloaf Mountain and the tournament was the first to take place in the same country and at the same time as the FIFA World CupTM.

The 20 finalists travelled to Rio de Janeiro as part of a dream three-day trip laid on by FIFA, which will culminate in a visit to the Maracana to see France take on Germany in the first FIFA World CupTM quarter-final. Watching the action at the Final Showdown were footballing heroes Ronaldo and Dwight Yorke.

“I’m absolutely delighted and I can’t describe how it feels to be champion,” said August. “Denmark isn’t here at the World Cup but we showed them we can play football on the virtual pitch. It was amazing to receive the trophy from Ronaldo.”

Speaking about August’s win Ronaldo said:

“I think it’s great to see this beautiful tournament here during the World Cup. I was really impressed by the level of skill on display at the Final Showdown. These guys are really talented and I thought Rosenmeier was a worthy winner.”

FIFA Head of Strategy & Brand Management, Ralph Straus, said:

“Congratulations to August Rosenmeier for winning what was a highly competitive FIFA Interactive World Cup, with huge engagement from the online community. It was a tense and exciting final showdown, played in one of the world’s most iconic settings. The value of the FIFA Interactive World Cup brand continues to grow year on year and we’re already looking forward to raising the bar even further next year.”
