Lord Nelson Becomes Latest Name To Back The England 2018 World Cup Bid.
As dawn broke across London on Tuesday, 11th May, Lord Horatio Nelson became the latest big name secured by Pitch to back the England 2018 World Cup Bid.
A specially created official England 2018 football scarf was placed around the neck of the national hero in the early hours, and as the sun rose across the capital, photography and video footage was captured of the great man proudly showing his support for the England bid to host the World Cup in 2018.
Nelson followed in the footsteps of some of England’s most famous modern-day faces who have already given their backing to the campaign, including David Beckham, Lewis Hamilton, Ray Winstone, Ant and Dec, James Corden, Noel Gallagher and David Haye.
London Mayor Boris Johnson, Chair of the London United 2018 bid team, said: "There could be no better an advocate than Lord Nelson, atop his iconic column. He, like England's football team, suffered variously at the hands of European foes. His clarion call that England expects that every man will do his duty could have been made for this occasion. This time, with the entire nation heeding his call and flying the flag for England's bid, we have a superb chance of reaching our goal."
